FAQ's
Here’s our most common questions and answers.
Does it Hurt?
Although there can be transient discomfort, most patients find it to be a tolerable experience due to the relief experienced as a result of the treatment.
If you ever feel uncomfortable during the treatment your therapist can adjust the speed and intensity to meet your tolerance at any time. We will work with you to provide the most comfort possible during your session.
How Do I Know if Dry Needling is Right for Me?
Dry needling is very diagnostic by nature. Within the first few minutes of an evaluation, we can tell you if you are a candidate for treatment.
How Come I’ve Never Heard of Dry Needling?
In the scope of modern medicine, dry needling is a relatively newer procedure.
Until relatively recently the efficacy and science of dry needling was poorly understood despite its 30 year origin. It’s success in treating body pain is undeniable, and the practice of dry needling is becoming more widely adopted year over year.
Is This Acupuncture? What is the Difference?
Dry needling does not have its roots in Chinese medicine. Needle placements are not based on the Chinese acupuncture point philosophy. Dry Needling method is based on palpation of muscle trigger points and taut bands. The needle is manipulated to evoke twitch response and subsequent release of the muscle.
What to Expect After My Treatment?
Everyone’s experience is different depending upon individual pain tolerance and length/intensity of the treatment. Post treatment, you can expect soreness similar to muscle fatigue for a few hours up to a few days. Occasionally you may experience post treatment bruising.
Oftentimes patients experience relief from presented pain immediately or up to a few days after treatment.
